Silent Love's Torment
Silent Love's Torment
Sonnet
Within my chest, a love song softly cries,
Yet fear enchains the words upon my tongue.
For you, a flame within my spirit lies,
A tender truth that must remain unsung.
Your eyes, like stars, hold galaxies untold,
And in their light, my foolish heart takes flight.
But dread descends, a shadow dark and cold,
What if my love finds naught but endless night?
Could tender words disturb your peaceful heart,
Or bring a frown to grace your gentle brow?
The thought alone could tear my world apart,
And so in silence, I must make my vow.
Though love unspoken aches within my soul,
Better this pain than risk your sweet control.
