A Poem :: Shedding Selfishness
My heart was cold, a guarded space,
Where selfish words and actions reigned.
The mirror showed a shadowed face,
The kindness in me deeply chained.
But then a whisper changed my fate,
A yearning bloomed, a wish took hold.
To mend my ways, it wasn't too late,
To break the hardness, leave the old.
I stumbled first, then found my stride,
In helping hands and selfless deeds.
The warmth of giving swelled my pride,
And nurtured long-forgotten seeds.
The change is slow, a work in flight,
But every day, the colors shift.
With kinder choices, softer light,
I leave behind a bitter rift.
