13 Ways to LINK an Item!
Most of you probably know or have heard about using bitem links when entering WdC contests, but did you also know there's actually thirteen different ways to link to an item? Some of these linking methods are used quite often, while others are rarely used.
NOTE: WdC ML is Writing.com Markup Language, how the site codes things for us to use.
MASTERY GOAL:
Show four different ways to link the same item.
LESSON: >> Click here ▼
You will often need to link your work, or others', when you post on WDC.
There are several types of links! The first two are the ones you will use the most often.
Just click on the colored links for details
Who knew there were 13 ways to link an item?!
Here they are!
WritingML Help for item >> {Item:2129802}
Click on the Underlined Words (as above) throughout for More Instructions
If you want to just provide a link without any extraneous information then this format is used.
You just plug in your item ID# instead of the WhataLand ID# of 2129802
It will look like this: "WhataLand"
WritingML Help for big item >> {B-item:2129802}
This is the one most often required when entering an item into a contest.
It will look like this:
Here is an excellent video that explains how to do that. "Video: Linking to an Item"
If you are still unsure, try taking a look at this resource. "Invalid Item"
WritingML Help for clean item >> {C-item:2129802}
This pretty much looks like the B-item, but you will notice that the cover image has no label. Also omitted is the envelope and the plus sign. It is a "cleaner" version.
WritingML Help for genre item >> {G-item:2129802}
This one is the cleaner version, yet it indicates the genres that are associated with the item. You choose which genres from the drop down menu when you create an item. You may choose three different genres.
WritingML Help for line item >> {L-item:2129802}
This one is in a straight line much like the basic item format, but it also includes the author.
"WhataLand" by Whata SpoonStealer
WritingML Help for line rating item >> {LR-item:2129802}
This one is basically the same as above but it also has the content rating of the item.
For information about ratings go to "Content Rating System (CRS)"
"WhataLand" [ASR] by Whata SpoonStealer
WritingML Help for rating item >> {R-item:2129802}
This one has the title and rating only.
"WhataLand" [ASR]
WritingML Help for line description item >> {LD-item:2129802}
A line item that includes the title, rating, and description, but not the author. If you have a list of items, then this format will save you some space. You can also use color to differentiate the items.
