Be Not a Slave of Sins
Strangled in this life's infernal imbroglio,
I glance at the heavens once more.
All things seem trap in the doldrums.
As still as the unrippled lake.
Blood oozes from the once cerulean sky.
Stains the purity of the cloud's silver lining
As the ball of light shoves itself slowly down
Another day comes to an end.
All the world's sentient life forms
Seem fleeting, dying in haste.
My chance to savor its transient beauties
Is almost beyond my grasp.
Is this what He felt in His delirious hours
While being nailed to a cross at the peak of the mound
Where the world halts and only the tingling pain
From the incessant whips appear to the senses?
Not at all. This isn't what He felt at that very moment.
The pain I'm in is too superficial
The struggles, the hardships, the mocking, the bruises
Are just one in a million compared to His.
No. He never thought all those pains
His sacrifice meant our freedom, our salvation
From all the sins we're entangled with
He's willing to die on the cross to save the world.
May this be emblazoned on our hearts and souls.
We are cleansed by His love and sacrifices
From the mortals' seven deadly sins
That leads us all to nothing but death.
Let these sins not enslave you.
Be not like the slaves of Ancient Greece.
Enchained and forced to build a colossal tomb
Beaten and strangled while being laden with huge stones.
Lives back then was at what worth?
A silver, a gold? Nothing. Unworthy like the rodents.
Even the sickly and the old were no excuse
To take the task or die for being no use.
It's not just in ancient times that these things happen
Perhaps violence won't just end with time
In modern era, where we traverse
War is raging between people, war between countries.
Take for instance, the Russo-Ukrainian war
Many had suffered, and more people died
Civilians can't do even just a thing
Except to weep and lament their loss.
This warring, this violence, would never end.
If one is a slave to the deadly sins.
Learn to resist the urge, flee from its captivating lair
And the world will be at peace.

Prompt: Rabbit hole—start a poem on one topic, and let it lead you down a “rabbit hole” of discovery, burrowing into various topics, and maybe ending far, far away from where you started. (Let yourself do research on this one. Enjoy Google and Wikipedia!)
