Create a Blog entry detailing an event that made you incredibly angry/frustrated.

I worked at an old county building that was over a hundred years old. The building needed repairs but the back basement was the worse. The sprinklers always sprung a leak. They put in a sprinkler emergency system that would beep when there was a problem with a leak. The Fire Alarm would go off at the Fire department if there was a fire as well as go off in our building. Every time, the Fire Alarm went off, we had to take 40 patients outside. The Fire Department would come out and we had no fire. Our sprinklers were leaking again. Our Administrator said we needed to search for a fire and if we found a fire, call the Fire Department. The building was three stories tall, we had an back basement, laundry room, kitchen, kitchen pantry, upstairs apartment, attic, 2 wings where patients lived. We had a basement in the front, upstairs rooms, three rooms by the front of the building, a crafts room and a dinky Med Room, Treatment Room and Dirty Utility Room. Two staff members and 40 patients. I was in charge and I am supposed to leave my co-worker with 40 patients outside? No. I stayed with my staff member and the patients.

One time, the Fire Department had to come out again. We had a leak and it was leaking by the kitchen. The Fire Department left and we we mopped the floor and the ceiling collapsed by the kitchen. My staff member and I didn't get hurt. I called my Nursing Supervisor again for the fourth time and she and the Administrator were married and he was Bipolar. My Nursing Supervisor said there was nothing she could do about it and she wasn't going to wake her husband again. Housekeeping came in a few hours later and helped. I had to pass out Meds. The Administrator yelled at the Housekeeper asking why I didn't call. The Housekeeper said I did and his wife refused to wake him up and tell him! The Nursing Supervisor didn't do the blood tests that morning because I kept calling them and waking them up. Excuse me for doing my job. I was Nursing and maintenance both at times.

We kept having leaks and the Fire Alarm went off and the Fire Department refused to come out unless we saw a fire. I had the patients outside and we didn't smell any smoke or see any fire. We were on our own. If the owners would have fixed the sprinkler system with new sprinklers and everything we needed, the alarm would never have gone off! They were too tight. I feel if a business is going to run a business, they should be made responsible to spend what ever money it takes to get the job done. The company was risking the lives of the patients and staff by nor caring and being negligent. Off with their head! Sad the staff I worked with cared and higher ups didn't. I stayed there 30 years. Every time, the sprinkler system went off, I had to worry, was there a fire or just a leak from the sprinkler? We survived but it still wasn't fair.
