Apocalypse
I stumbled across barren rubble, looking desperately for signs of life. Smouldering, wrecked buildings stretched to the horizon, a testament to the nuclear annihilation I'd just barely survived.
"Hello? Is anyone here?"
My cracked voice echoed off shattered brick walls. My head throbbed as toxic rain burned my uplifted face. I was the last living soul on Earth, but not for long now.
Whimpering sounded from under a pile of debris. I bent down, yanking away whatever I could. A dust-streaked terrier rolled into my arms, tail weakly wagging. I hugged it close.
