War and Hockey
The only good thing to report is that Detroit beat Dallas last night, taking game one of the conference finals.
In the news, Hezbollah has seized control of Beirut, Lebanon around 2am EST. I was woken from a restless sleep hearing hubby on the phone with his parents. Not only have they taken the capital, they also burned the building that houses the newspaper for the Sunni sect, and closed Future TV, that belongs to the murdered Prime Minister, Rafic Hariri. I must admit then when all the satilitte feed for Future was starting and stopping for hours last night, I saw it coming. Nasrallah is pissed because his illegal cameras in the airport were discovered, the government was forced to remove the head of security at the airport.
I am terrified for a family I have come to love, adore and respect a great deal. Where is the future they have been longing for after decades of civil war? Why do people believe that war is the only way? Innocent people are dying by the hand of selfishness, and selfishness alone. Gun sales have been on the rise for over two years now at an alarming rate after the war of 2006. Since Hezbollah refuses to sit down and move the government forward, the population is scared and taking precautions. This is the "ME" factor personified. And I find it disgusting.
I am disappointed that the Lebanese Soldiers are taking sides, and not the side of their country. Whether you are drafted into the service or not, your primary responsiblity is to your country, and all people. Religion and Politics shouldn't be even playing a part in this. Sitting by and watching as innocent people are being tortured and killed, is just wrong, by any standard. I hate to be preachy, but damn it, it irritates the shit out of me.
