An Open Letter
An open letter to my 11 year old self:
Hey, kid. You see that book you're reading, the one by Larry Niven? Pretty cool, huh? Well, guess what - you're going to get to meet the guy in about 32 years. Not before then, sorry.
But here's the cool part: the same weekend, at a fantasy / science fiction / gaming convention, you're going to get to see:
 A Klingon shaking hands with a Stormtrooper
| No, the universe does not implode when Star Trek and Star Wars meet. |
The same Klingon singing country western karaoke
| A strange form of entertainment that came from Japan and is roughly translated as "Drunk idiots making fools of themselves" - but don't tell that to the Klingon |
Scantily clad bellydancers
| I figured that'd get your attention. I know what you're thinking when you look at Princess Leia. Wait til you see the third Star Wars movie! |
Boba Fett. Not some guy in a costume; the actual actor. Oh, wait, he wasn't in the first movie, was he? Anyway, you'll think it's cool.
Oh, yeah, and you're going to be in a drum circle with Larry Niven and some other folks while your wife (who's pretty damn hot, just like you think she's going to be) dances in the center.
He's not much of a drummer, or a public speaker, but he tries. So you do the same with your writing, you hear me? Don't give up.
Oh, and sell all your stocks in December of 2007 and hold cash until at least March of 2009. Just trust me on this one. |
