I'm Going to Brazil!

I think I've mentioned this briefly before, but last year my wife went on a mission trip to Brazil, where she helped put on a summer camp for single moms and children from the favelas (slums). Well, as it turns out, we're both going this summer! It turns out that they need two things: an English teacher to implement a curriculum for a class with English Language Learners, and someone to help them create a videos and web content so the ministry can promote their programs to both national and international audiences online. It sounded like the perfect job for an English teacher and her film major husband! *Wink*

I'm ridiculously excited to go on this trip. While I'm still exploring my own spirituality, that's not going to stop me from helping a wonderful organization bring love, support, and encouragement to underprivileged people in Brazil. And one of the things that I'm most excited about is that fact that I'm going to be teaching people how to make these videos, and then leaving some equipment with them so they can continue to create videos and content long after my visit. I'll be going for two weeks, and my wife will be there for almost a whole month! *Shock*

Yes, we are running a GoFundMe campaign to raise money: Jeff & Crystal's Brazil Mission Trip  Open in new Window.

*Up* (Obligatory self-promotion *Wink*)

However, we're expecting to pay for most of the trip ourselves, and the hope is to raise as much money as we can so that we're also able to make a generous contribution to the ministry's many other programs, including renovations on their kitchen and dormitory, and repairs to their vans, which will reduce their costs each time other missionaries visit them.

While donations are always appreciated, the purpose of this post is, more than anything, to convey how excited we are to have the opportunity to travel internationally this year and do some good for a community that really, really needs it.

While it will mean that I'll be away from Writing.Com for a couple weeks (*Cry*, but I might have intermittent access to wifi, in which case *Delight*), I hope that each of you will consider keeping us in your thoughts and/or prayers this summer. I've never done anything like this before, so it's a little scary and a little exciting all at the same time!
