Island Of The Blue Dolphins
Prompt: Lyn asked us about being stranded on a deserted island and about solitude and thriving. "Castaway" is solitude. "Island Of The Blue Dolphins" is thriving. Which do we choose?

I choose "Island Of The Blue Dolphins." The Native Americans were forced off the island by seal hunters who had killed their chief. I love how the Native American woman Karana{the chief's daughter and her brother was killed by wild dogs} was left stranded on the island by herself and had to fish to survive, pick berries and she had an old captain's dog for companies, two pet birds, met a seal and had to hide from the seal hunters when they showed up and a Native American woman was with them that she made friends with. Karana lived in a cave and she was recued in the end but years later.

I would want to be like Karana. I want to thrive, have a dog for a friend with me, fish and learn to live without my people. It would be spooky and lonely but I would be alright I hope. The ocean is beautiful. I just hope if this was true, that I would have any health issues. I love this story and I saw the movie when I was ten years old. She was on this island for eighteen years according to the book. This story is heart touching. I would take this story over "Castaway." In "Castaway", he had a ball for a friend. "The Island Of The Blue Dolphins", I would have had a dog, pet birds, dolphins and the island seemed big enough to live on.
