I found this song late last year and really fell in love with it. Ella Henderson first came into the public spotlight when she competed on the ninth season of The X Factor in 2012. Even though she only finished sixth after being considered a heavy favorite, she was signed by Simon Cowell's Syco Music label. Her debut studio album was released in October 2014, and this is the first single and first hit off that album, co-written by OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder. The song debuted at #1 in the UK and became the country's sixth best-selling single of 2014. With a voice like that and considerable success already, it's not hard to imagine that the nineteen year old Ella Henderson could be impressing us with her music and talented voice for some time.
I actually heard this song for the first time during a trip my wife and I took to Portland at the end of October. The single had just been out for a week or so and it was in heavy rotation on whatever contemporary hits satellite radio station was featured in our rental car. After three days of nothing but Ella Henderson and Taylor Swift songs, this one kinda grew on me.
