Severe Weather
Prompt: Lyn asked us to write how weather especially severe affects our lives.
I live in Indiana and the weather is bad. We can be snowed in for 2 or 3 days at a time. It gets bad. Once I went to pick up my son at a friend's house. It is a big yard in the country and it was sheer ice. I walked in the yard and it was slick. Lucky for me, there was a tree there. I grabbed unto the tree and I keep spinning around the tree. It is like I was dancing with a tree. My son and his friend came outside and rescued me. If I did that now, I would have fallen.
One weekend when I was off, it snowed and kept snowing. It was 30 Degrees and our electricity went out for 14 hours. We had no generator. We slept in our clothes. We had a big snow drift in our yard that looked like the "Titanic" ice berg. That was scary. After that incident, we got a generator.
Once outside, I fell in a snow drift. My husband came out to rescue me. Another time, my car skidded off a country road into a corn field. I did some damage to my front fender. The car was sliding. I took my foot off the accelerator and just hung on to the steering wheel and the car went all over. Luckily, there were no animals or people in the corn field.
Once I drove home from the Mall in snow and couldn't see the lines on the highway. It took me 3 hours to get home. When it snows, I don't drive much anymore. My husband takes me to work and comes and gets me. We have 2 or 3 months of bad weather in Indiana like there. I don't know how Lyn lives in Maine where winter is worse. I don't do well with winter.
