Tagging ~ #2.2
Tag! You're it!
This lesson covers the different ways to tag someone. I know most of you can already do this, but did you know that there are actually FOUR different ways to tag someone?
MASTERY GOAL
Tag the following members using the indicated format.
Yourself - using the Long form
A Blue case - using the Recognition form
A Yellow case - using the Short form
A Black case - using the Handle form

Why tag another member?
Usually you tag another member to get their attention or to highlight them.
Whenever you tag another member, they are notified of the tag, and can click to see what is going on. Otherwise, they may never know.
When might you tag?
Here are a few, but not all.
- to congratulate a member publicly
- to notify a member that they won in a contest
- to notify they are the recipient of raffle tickets
- to encourage their participation in a posted message thread
- to differentiate who you are talking to in a posted message that has several participants
Note: Tagging can not be done in emails. That is a private conversation.
Tagging can also help others locate a particular member.
There are LOTS of WDC members and many actually have the same handle, but nobody has the same username. However, there is only one {user:whata} = Whata SpoonStealer
There are four different formats available to link or tag another member.
Where the XXXX's are, plug in the user name.
This format gives the most information: I refer to it as the Long form.
{user:whata} = Whata SpoonStealer
This format shows the suitcase and the community recognition points. It is referred to as the Recognition form.
{ruser:whata} = Whata SpoonStealer
This format also drops the Community Recognition Points. It is referred to the Short form.
{suser:whata} = Whata SpoonStealer
This format only shows the member's handle. It is referred to as the Handle form.
{huser:whata} = Whata SpoonStealer
When to use which tag?
If you want others to be able to directly email that member, then the {{user:xxxxxxxxx}] option is the best which retains the envelope.
If you want to attract that member to a particular post, then the {h-user:xxxxxxx} works well.
Again, it does not really matter which form you use, but you do have options.
NOTE: There are times when a member who has been tagged will not be able to view the source of the tag.
- Tags within a group only forum, can only be seen by the group members.
- Forums & items can be set to limit who has access it, blocking some members..
