"Sweetheart! It'll be fun. I mean it's included in our package, why not?" The newly wed husband grinned so lavishly at his impressionable wife.

Her cheeks puffed up and she turned away, doing her best to avoid those long lashes and dreamy golden eyes that so easily drew her into whatever he desired. She could feel the spell of his stare still washing over her, leaving shivers in places still warmed from their first honeymoon night. "I just don't like the idea of dipping into the ocean. Some things just aren't to be tampered with."

He slid around from behind her and pecked her on the cheek softly. "You wouldn't get in the pool. You wouldn't take a shower with me. I'm starting to thing you're afraid of water or something."

Blush and warmth spilled across her face. "I am not! I just... have my reasons."

"Uh huh. Well after two years and no water action you're lucky I can at least believe you're clean."

She jumped up from her lounging chair, her hands brandished on her hips in a deadly standoff that he merely laughed at. "Now you're going a might bit too far, mister!"

He never took that stance seriously and even less so now, his heart so high with love and joy. Lost in jest her charged her, scooping her up in his muscular arms. She wiggled about to no avail. He gripped her well as he headed toward the edge of the shore, stepping into the lapping waves. He continued onward until his he was knee deep in and could see that any step further would plunge them into the deep.

"Stop it!" She cried out. Terror was confused with humor and he tossed her.

She plunged into the deep, feeling more at home than she ever had living on land. Her legs began to fuse together and fan about as a strong fin as smooth skin was transformed into scales. Lost in the transformation she swam down further, gils giving her the air she needed to continue. Above her husband felt dread at his mistake. He'd seen the swimming medals on her mantle as they dated. She just never swam around him. Had he put her too off guard? Was she ensnared? He dived in to search for her in the blackened depths.

Down further she swam. She already knew where to go until she reached a cluster of rocks where a sea turtule sat so proudly. He blinked his eyes open slowly and yawned lazily. "And so the contract has been breached. Come along my child."

"But what of my husband?"

"What do you care, child? Mermaids do not feel for humans..."

He was right. Already she was having a hard time caring enough to look back and see if he was searching for her. The change was so sudden and yet the sadness was not present. What had she seen in that escapade after all? Why had she ever wished to be human?
