About This Author
My name is Joy, and I love to write. Why poetry, here? Because poetry uplifts its writer, and if she is lucky enough, her readers, too. Around us, so many objects abound to write about. Once a poet starts with a smallest, most trivial object, he shall discover that his pen will spill out what is most delicate or most majestic hidden inside him. Since the classics sometimes dealt with lofty subjects with a lofty language, a person with poetry in his soul may incline to emulate that. That is understandable. Poetry does that to a person: it enlarges the soul and gives it wings. Yet, to really soar, a poet needs to take off from the ground. Kiya's gift. I love it!

Third Prompt Poem- Lava and Ice
by Joy Author IconMail Icon
Lava and Ice

To reveal its existence,
lava drags itself
out of the womb
to flit about or to ram
against one thing or another,
and afterwards blisters
into frigid
ice-bands to
create bedlam.

Akin to lava,
being of no use
to yourself,
you infiltrate quietly
into the world’s tumult
to stand amazed at
how hurt you are
by its pandemonium.

Then, with poise
unraveling and
not knowing
where to go
you escape
out of the box,
to find your way,
to subtly grope
outside the tracks
of the mind
for the unseen
emptiness,
where lava
and ice,
far away
or together,
do not exist.

-------------
The koan is: "How can we escape the cold and heat?" “"Why not go where there is no cold and heat?"
