TRIFLE -- A Recipe

Get yourself a fancy bowl, crystal maybe,
the fancier the better, to light up the room.

                    Exhale a mouthful of air,
                   a dose of hope with zeal so rare.

At the bottom and around the bowl,
layer and arrange the ladyfingers.

                   Your tenderness decides the affair,
                   so, step back and stare at finery’s fair,

Add pudding mixture prepared ahead of time;
next, fruit pieces and slices. Don’t forget the dices.

                   Along with your whim, let your talent thunder,
                   whatever he touches will become your hunger.

Repeat the process three times over,
for a pretty pattern of waves, inside the bowl.

                   Navigate the panting, steer through the sighs;
                   just live the moment, forget the whys.

Then end the layering with
the last stratum of pudding.

                   Forever fixed at beauty is your gaze,
                   a different place, your face ablaze

Top it with berries, crown it with cream,
chill to serve later with toasted almonds.

                   Your smoothness, a masking sham,
                   but you deserve a “Thank-you-Ma’am!”
