About This Author
My name is Joy, and I love to write. Why poetry, here? Because poetry uplifts its writer, and if she is lucky enough, her readers, too. Around us, so many objects abound to write about. Once a poet starts with a smallest, most trivial object, he shall discover that his pen will spill out what is most delicate or most majestic hidden inside him. Since the classics sometimes dealt with lofty subjects with a lofty language, a person with poetry in his soul may incline to emulate that. That is understandable. Poetry does that to a person: it enlarges the soul and gives it wings. Yet, to really soar, a poet needs to take off from the ground. ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only **

15. Write a poem for a flower (any flower or one particular flower) opening for the first time.

The Hydrangea Shrub

Mother's Day 2005 an
Hydrangea plant was given
Daughter knew I loved the flora
Did I forget to give the plant a drink
Sad to say it was lookining less livin'

Had a half wine barrel
Used as a fountain decor
It sat empty because of mosquito's

Off to the nursery to purchase soil
Bags and bags of soil it did consume
Was my plan in fruitless vain
Could this Hydrangia strain
Come back in a splendid gain
It was worth the try

It settled in to it's new home
New buds emergered
Oh, daughter was so pleased
It bloomed all season long

There it sat all thru winter
Did the frost do it's nasty deed
It surely did on the annual foilage
In the wine barrel that shared the space

Just this week I took away the dead leaves
What was revealed
My Mother's Day gift is
Sprouting new life in 2006!
