It was a balmy Mississippi August and they were so ready for the trip. Every thing was on schedule the gear and suite cases are packed tickets in hand. Eric in his usual blue jeans, sports shirt and tennis shoes waiting on Renee with the car running to cool it off. Renee dressed in a black shorts outfit, black bobby socks and tennis shoes finally headed for the car after calling the children to check on every one before they headed for the airport.

One would think that they were in their thirties instead of on their thirty-second anniversary. Renee a petite redhead works on keeping her figure, not because she is over weight, just because she wanted to fit into the same wet suite each year. For the last ten years, they have flown to a tropical island to go scuba diving. Eric is a tall lean man but muscular, for a man in his fifties he takes good care of himself. They walk and workout every day. Eric’s graying hair and mustache, their thirty-year old children and four grandchildren are the only signs that they may not be in their thirties.

The drive to the airport is uneventful but beautiful. The cotton fields take up most of the landscape with a few building dotting the roadside. There are still a few cornfields a remnant of the promised ethanol plants that never came. Every time Eric sees the fields, he is thankful he is in catfish. Memphis airport is on the east side and not hard to get to especially early morning. They hate having to park and leave their car there for the whole week but asking some one to drive them would be even worse.

Homeland security’s new regulation have made getting through the airport a long process, but they made it with time to get a Starbucks coffee before they have to board. The seating on the plane is more crowded now with more seats in each plane but fewer passengers. Eight hours on the plane with a two hour lay over in Miami final destination Cayman Brac and a week of scuba diving, dinning and fun.

The drive to Brac Reef Beach Resort is not very far, as the island is only fourteen square mile, but the scenery was breath taking. The waterfall coming down the side of the bluff had a rainbow in it and fell to a pool of ice blue water that ran right beside the road. Diving here with the renowned Reef Divers Dive Operation located right at the resort allow for easy access any time. The room is right on the crystal blue water, the scenery is beautiful, room spacious and already stocked with snacks and drinks. Eric and Renee settle in to freshen up and a quick siesta before going out to dinner.

Eric headed for the mini bar already stocked to his specifications. Real glass bottle root beer, can’t hardly find that in the state, but here seem like every thing still comes in glass bottles. Eric screwed the cap off one and threw the bottle cap into the garbage as if it were a basketball. It felt so good just to get away and relax for the week no worries that he could speak about at least not aloud and ruin their anniversary. They had a good group of people working for them, each store fully staffed with loyal friends. The ponds overseen by their partner, so what should they worry about? A delightful meal and stroll on the beach followed by a restful night sleep was all had to worry about to get ready for the dive the next morning

Waking early to catch the sunrise coming over the horizon it was going to be a beautiful day for a dive. Breakfast would be light this morning too much food and it gets hard to breath. Heading for the Reef Divers place the excitement was thick in the air. Just a short time for all their certification to check out and every one else to get there, and they were off for the day. The distance to the dive location was a short one since you could literally dive right off the beach, but the reef would provide more marine life for them to get on film.

Every one was geared up and ready to flip over broad when the dive instructor told them that they were in for a different type of treat this morning. Just to the starboard side of the boat close the bottom of the sea was a bike race taking place today in about thirty minutes so conserve you air and stay close if you want to watch the race. A rumble of chatter circled the boat, a bike race miles from main land no way. Eric and Renee just sat there a minute not sure what they heard was true then every one took there turn wetting and adjusting their facemasks.

The scenery was a beautiful as it always was crystal clear water the colors of the fish so vibrant almost electric. They all stayed close to the wreckage under the boat taking pictures of each other with the marine life the found there, but never getting too far away. They were curious about this upcoming race. It was not long before several other boats moved close to the Pirate, the boat they came out in. Not far from them, they started seeing things and people dropping into the water. When the water settled down and it appeared that, every one that was coming in was here Eric and Renee moved to get a closer look at the racers. There were ten or so bicycles, there was Murray and Huffy bike and a few they did not recognize the rest were Schwinns.

These riders had some how tricked out their bikes with weights and lights and were able to peddle under water and keep the bikes upright. The race only lasted about fifteen minutes; they circled around the old wreck several laps. Renee got several good pictures before finished, and they had to go back onboard. No one could stop talking about the bike race they had just seen on the trip back to shore. Eric and Renee will have stories to tell when they get back home.
