When I write short stories, I tend to look at the prompt and let something pop into my head. Once something is there, I have little choice but to go with it. Today, I got it in my head that a poem was what was needed. I do not write poetry. Starship captains write of battles and mighty deeds and such. Anyway, a poem got in so a poem got written.
