Day 7 Complete
by A Non-Existent User
Wednesday, Oct. 07 Describe, in detail, an object that is critical to your story The most important object for the story is the dust storms. Dust storms were topsoil that because the farmers changed the way they groomed their fields with tractors instead of lister's or single blade plows, the ground had less fencing and nothing to hold the ground in place any longer. When a wind came up it would take the topsoil and it would act like a tornado, only worse. The wind would take the topsoil and fill the air with it until it blocked out the sun. Everything was coated with it, and in some cases, vehicles were covered in it, and it got to be as high as the top of the door frame of the house. The wind would take the topsoil across the country, leaving in its wake disease and death as lungs were polluted with dust which caused dust pneumonia. The dust storms were caused by the drought of the 1930s. The rain stopped in 1931. In 1932 there were 38 dust storms and after that they stopped counting there were so many. Because of the dust storms caused by the drought, the U.S. government stepped in and offered financial aid to those who wanted it. It also caused some people to pack up and leave for greener pastures. Roughly one-third of the population affected by the dust storms left. One of the benefits of the dust storms was the new Soil Conservation Bill that introduced a new way to farm the land. Valerie Nothing is impossible when God is in it. I can face tomorrow because God is in my life today. Matthew 19:26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible. (KJV) It is hard to fail, but it is worse never to have tried to succeed. -- President Teddy Roosevelt http://just4him.webs.com |
