I can sometimes do them off the top of my head but that's rather rare. I don't plan out on paper or outline but I do watch my ideas in my head for a little while before writing. For this contest, that means I'll check out the prompt in the morning after I get up and then I won't write the story till evening or even night once the idea is figured out. Makes it easier to write a little more in the short allotted time but if I can't think of anything then I'll have to fly by the seat of my pants just to get something written for a prompt.

I think I have a longer story deadline coming up too. I haven't thought of that story at all, uh oh. Better go do that and homework, then I'll write a cave story.
