The small dark headed boy stood on the deck of the ship leaning hard into the railing as he pushed himself up onto his toes. "Did you see it, Momma? Did you see it? It was a turtle!"

His mother smiled, softly. She knew her son would love this little tour. Since he was two he had been saying he was a turtle. Now, at ten, he was the savoir of box turtles everywhere. The little creek that ran behind their house was now the home of a whole horde of turtles that he had insisted they save from the busy highway. "Momma, you can't just put it on the side of the road! It will just cross again and next time we might not be here to save it!"

Thanks to all the rescues, their home had become a virtual turtle sanctuary. When the opportunity to let him see the sea turtles coming in to lay their eggs had shown itself, how could she resist. The joy on his face was worth the cost. "You know, you can bring him back, when the eggs hatch and help the little ones get to the ocean." The captain's voice called out from behind them.

"I thought they had found out that if you help them they don't do as well once they make it to the ocean?" Said the boy, his brow furrowed with thought.

"Your right about that, Son. But, we do stand watch over them and help keep as much of the predators away as possible. We can't pick them up and take them closer but we can make sure they make it." The captain explained as he pointed over the boys head to a group of turtles surfacing.

"Their eggs will hatch in about two months," The boy told his mother confidently, before turning back to look at the dark blue water.

"Well then Captain, we will see you in two months." Momma said, causing her son to break out into a happy dance. In this family life had become, anything for the turtles. Funny how it felt like that was exactly how it should be.
