“I just don’t understand what the big deal is.” Rusty waved his arms around in frustration. Vicky didn’t know how to make him understand why the turtles were so important to her, and why it was important that she be there for the hatching. “I just love them, Rusty.” She shrugged her shoulders and slipped on her sport sandals and a light jacket. “I watch every year; I’m not going to miss it. It’s important to me.” “But you’re okay missing something that’s important to me.” He snatched his jacket from the back of the chair and stormed out the door. For a minute, Vicky was tempted to just let him go, never mind that they were supposed to be married in a month, never mind she’d promised Rusty she’d go to his stupid drag race, but that was before Tim had asked her to be a part of the Hatch Team, as he called it. Never mind that Tim was really into the sea turtles, whereas Rusty was not. Never mind that Tim was interested in everything that Vicky had to say. Never mind that Tim always seemed happy to see her. And never mind that Vicky wasn’t engaged to him; she was engaged to Rusty. How had things gotten so turned around? Vicky darted outside just as Rusty started his old blue truck (of course he’d have an old truck; his name was Rusty, after all). “Rusty, wait!” But he didn’t wait. Putting the truck in gear, he peeled out of the parking lot like he was already a the race track. Sighing, Vicky twisted the ring on her finger, thinking that maybe she was off the hook. It didn’t make her feel any better. A red Mustang pulled into the lot, music blaring, windows down. “Hey, Vicky,” Tim called, the wind blowing his blonde hair. “Ready to go see some baby turtles? “Sure, Tim.” ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** |
