Mosses used one knuckle to tap softly on the front door. “Hope I ain’t interrupting supper,” Mosses said putting his mouth up close to the little window in the middle of the door. “I’m here ‘bout the greenhouse…” He stepped one step back when he heard the dead bolt moving and took another step back by instinct when the door suddenly swung open. “The what?” asked Marvin. His head came into view as it stuck out into the porch light from around the door. “We don’t have a green house” “You nice wife said you’all wanted a greenhouse!” “We like it the color it is,” insisted Marvin. “A hothouse!” Mosses interjected quickly “I’m very sorry,” said Marvin. “We don’t have a hot house and now if you’ll please excuse me-“ “You Mr. Marvin… Ain’t that so?” Marvin all of a sudden looked relieved. “Are you talking about the arboretum?” He opened the door wider. With a big smile, he said, “You’re the fellow going to build us the arboretum!” Mosses nodded his head. Fine, he thought sadly. I’ll build whatever you want. “But I ain’t touching no dead people!” Mosses said loudly. This point he was sticking to. |
