Beyond the glass, the sea plants resembled trees and vines. The way they swayed in the water even made it look like there might have been a breeze. The old leaves scattered along the tunnel floor added to the effect, though whether the additional decoration had been intentional or not was debatable. It didn't really matter, in any case, because once those leaves came to be there, no one wanted to take the time to clear them away. It was a large tunnel. Sarah was leaning against one of the support beams, looking through the glass at the undersea forest. She passed through here often. It was the easiest route to the other side of the large inlet--less expensive than the boat and quicker than the drive north to the land bridge. It was also more pleasant. All the fears of the tunnel being structurally unsound deterred most other people, so she could ride her motorcycle through here with very little distraction. It helped prepare her for what was always bound to be a hectic day at work in the city. But today, she wasn't driving to work. Today, she was just watching the sea plants sway. This would be her last chance. Tomorrow, the tunnel would be closed off. For repairs, supposedly, but she knew once they sealed it off they would either let it sit or discover a reason to tear it down. So she came to say goodbye. ~Dream Justly~ and Write Away |
