I completed the exercise and I see its value in this Prep Challenge. For me, I write for myself more than for an audience. Since I am not trying to please any specific group, I write in the style with which I am most comfortable. This seems more natural to me. If I were writing for children, or writing non-fiction, then I would say that my target audience demographic would be more specific, and would need to be so. However, since my goal is strictly to entertain – not to educate, enlighten, or encourage – I don’t want to try to write for a specific segment of the population. |
