Just joined the Challenge
by A Non-Existent User
I have friends who do NoNoWriMo every years. This is my first. I am writing a play, not a novel. Actually a musical. And I think NoNoWriMo will jumpstart me. Some of the challenges will apply; others will not. But I have started and have done all 5 first challenges. I especially liked today's - writing about my leading man. Thank you for this. I plan on having fun. Here is my Johnathan. Oct 5 – Protagonist Profile Who is Johnathan? He is an author. He loves to write, but is unsuccessful at the moment. He is trying to decide if he will continue trying to be published, or get a “real” job. He wants to write the Great American Novel, but is easily distracted by computer games, insects on the wall, loving pets and the beauty of nature. He is married to Ann, who loves him and supports him and thinks he is brilliant. She is his practical side. She is his motivation. When he wants to curl up and give up, she doesn’t let him. He is childlike, fun and adventurous. He likes people in the abstract, but can have trouble with relationships. He has a quick temper, but is instantly sorry. He is a loving uncle, but not sure how to handle his niece and nephew. He doesn’t really understand them, but wants to because sometimes he feels like he is only 11 or 12 also. He is a natural story teller, as most children are. He is a good listener and constantly scribbles down ideas, scraps of words and phrases. He likes scary movies and books. He likes mysteries and wants to figure them out before the author or screenwriter tells the answer. He secretly thinks he’s smarter than other people, but in a fun, childlike way, not an obnoxious, superior adult way. He will give you the shirt off his back if you need it, but can also wonder why you are still here?! He loves Michigan. Born and raised here he can’t imagine living anywhere else. He enjoys travel and would go anywhere to see anything, but is always glad to come home. He is frustrated that his writing hasn’t sold, but not because he isn’t famous. He wants to take care of Ann. He thinks he has something to say. He loves to read and wants people to love to read – his writing! His literary heroes range from Sherlock Holmes to Encyclopedia Brown to Captain Underpants to Tom Sawyer to Inigo Montoya to the Scarlet Pimpernel to Mrs. Who and Mrs Whatzit and Albus Dumbledore. He likes reading Shakespeare aloud using a variety of dialects. When he grows up he wants to be Prospero, but thinks it’s more likely that he will be Bottom. He sees himself with the wit of Benedick, but sometimes it comes out more like Dogberry. Underneath all the ups and downs, trials and errors, he is a sincere, loving, hard working man who wants the best for his wife and family. |
