Thanks for your reply, Jed! I'm glad these were read. I just love these letters. While I'm wont to agree with everything you said, there is one thing I can't help but point out. You said, The sexuality of pubescent people is part of themselves and their reality; it accounts for many of their hopes and dreams, and their trouble and strife. But we're not allowed to address the issues in front of them, or even mention the word in E rated areas of our own Ports. Again, partly I agree with you. Sexuality isn't some horrible thing to pretend doesn't exist, and absolutely not a reason to ban books. But I'm uncomfortable with your comparison of book banning with the rating system on WDC, even if it might have been unintentional. WDC itself doesn't ban any writing. You can write whatever you want, with whatever content you like. Just rate it appropriately. The rating system is strict, yes, but it helps us know exactly what each item contains. The problem with banning is NOT the idea of, "I don't like this book." You're welcome to like or dislike whatever you want. The problem with banning is when it's said, "Because I don't like this book, nobody else is allowed to read it, either." That's not what happens here. ![]() ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** |
