I think you ran into a problem that often gets mistaken with help. You asked for assistance and what you got were two people trying to write your story for you. That isn't assistance in any way. Someone giving help needs to know what their purpose is. They are not trying to change anything other than getting you back on track to where you planned to go. If they are trying to change your destination and that's not what you asked for then they are indirectly taking over and writing your story for you.

I do what you are talking about here but in a different context of my life. I don't see politics the way my dad does. He aims toward one point and I usually don't agree with it. What happens is the more the topic is talked about the more each of us tried to bring in more things to convince the other of out view being correct. Then everyone is talking and nobody is listening. My solution is to get off politics as fast as possible when it comes up.

So, I'd suggest instead of going with the completely no spoilers option I'd suggest you find the few people who help instead of taking over. It may take a while to find those people but they are out there. And, sometimes you will find them when they come to you for help and you lead by example. It sounds as if you know how to separate help from interference.
