I agree. If you need to change the idea or the premise, now is the time. Don't wait till Nov. 15. But don't throw out the prep work for the old one, either. Store it away someplace. It will come in handy for some future work, maybe in another novel or any other form of writing. Twice, I used old and not-successful short stories, partly or in their entirety, inside my novels.
