So, I was rereading my notes from the past two weeks before bed last night, and I suddenly had an idea for a new character to fill out a social gap in the storytelling, because my outline is looking a little sparse in secondary plot. I was running a little thin figuring eventually something would click, and suddenly, I think it has. In my head, I have just 'met' a character who balances my narrator in a lot of unexpected ways and I secretly suspect she will wind up being the key to making the ending work.

I have been pre-writing this book as the capstone to a series and at one point, I had a really clear mental picture of where I wanted to leave my hero at the end of it. This new character threatens to be another one of those personalities that takes over and gets her hooks (er,fingernails) into the story and leads it off in a whole new direction.

It is really disorienting to have a really concrete idea of who my main character is, and what he represents, totally disrupted by some random no-name person who just headbutt her way into being a relevant part of my story plan. LOL!
