You make a lot of good points in there. I either know I have a title or I just don't. I took a piece once with the working title 'Title Here' because I had no idea where to go with it. One of my projects is pet-named 'Duke' with a similar feeling of whimsy because PuppyTales ![]() I read somewhere that three words in a title is very strong. One of the myths around publishing is not to put a gem in the title: the original title of The Wizard of Oz was The Emerald City. Not sure if that still holds, but David Eddings got by with a whole trilogy beginning with The Diamond Throne. A couple links to give some ideas: http://www.fictionaddiction.net/Writer-s-Toolbox/choosing-the-perfect-title-for-... http://www.writing-world.com/fiction/titles.shtml And an exercise that looks fun: http://www.write-and-publish-fiction.com/good-book-title.html Don't get too attached, like the writing world article says. I was asked if I was "married" to my novel's title when it was accepted for publication. While it didn't change, it could have and many do. ![]() ![]() |
