1/2 or part of my book will take place in W VA at the base of the Appalachian, Blue Ridge, Smoky Mountains. What I am struggling with is the tone of the characters. Do I need to give them the real flavor of that backwoods jargon or...since my #2MC has left the Hill country for the nearby town to get away from that life and language. Should I just "flavor" their talk with "yew", "yewz", "ya'll", "Kin", "Cuzin" and other such talk? Is it too distracting? She will confront her "family" for a short page or so and I kin put inny dialect there and leave it be. Thoughts? suggestions? Tina Weaver |
