Don't use that as a reason to quit. Use it as motivation.

2007- won haven't touched the story since. It's a good story but Daddy died in January of 2008 and I just can't bring myself to do anything with it or even throw it away.

2008 - Fantasy fiction I won but it hit my trashcan almost as soon as my word count bar turned green or is it purple?

2009 - same as 2008

2010 - same as 2009

2011 - I discovered characters I loved wrote 100k in words for the first time but knew that the story was going to need an entire rewrite. tried to do that during Camp Nano and failed miserably

2012 - Rewrote the story from 2011 nearly made it to 150k tried to work on it for camp nano and failed.

2013- I will be rewriting the same story as the last two years but with different main characters sort of. I have several stories to tell, that are all bound up by the same back story. The one I have been telling needs more time to come together. It just isn't believable as the first relationship to mesh. So I am pushing those two to the background to help build that relationship slowly and pulling to the forefront a relationship that should have happened years before it is. I am also changing the setting to a town that does actually exist but my fictional version will only reflect that town in name and location. Everything else will be changed. I figured that if the town only has 112 people in the entire town, I can get away with it. Whose going to complain?

My point is, though it's the long way of doing it. My story gets better each time I write it and without Nano I would never write it. Now we just need something like this for Camp Nano as well as a nano lounge for camp nano, a fundraiser for camp nano, All the bells and whistles. Three times a year and we could knock these novels out faster. Don't give up though. Just think of it as a chance to try new things and get them out of your head so you can do your real work.
