Time jumps work ok if you give a reason. ============ Fred jumped off the cliff, but instead of landing directly in the water, he hit a thorny branch sticking out the side of the mountain. He ended up in the hospital in intensive care. Three weeks later, after being discharged... ============ If you don't give a logical reason -- even a made up one -- you will impact the flow and your reader will be left thinking "What happened? Did the protagonist just fall asleep or something? Or did the author accidentally skip a chapter?"
