With ebooks, sometimes we forget that the market is where this is going to sit on shelves in bookstores, but ebooks work the same way. They say, oh, if you liked X, read Y!! While Harry Potter did have wide appeal, it is an extremely rare case of breaking out of its target audience. If you were to think of a book you read that would also appeal to the audience you want to get to read your book, what would that book be? Where do you find it in the bookstore or the library? Mine was troublesome that way, but I would probably pick a book like Starship Troopers. It would at least get me in the ballpark of readership. If you pick Harry Potter (like the first one), make sure that your targets would also read Artemis Fowl, Septimus Heap, and Percy Jackson. |
