I'm concerned about the idea itself, and am looking for suggestions for a list/excel database because of the sheer amount of settings I have. Let's take Tolkien's trilogy for example. Would you describe Bree as a setting? Or Human towns in general? Or the gates of Bree, the streets of Bree, the Prancing Pony, and the tavern rooms? Or let's take Harry Potter, for example. Would you describe Hogwarts as a setting? Or the castle grounds, with the castle, the pitch, the forest etc. taken as different settings? Or each house's dormitory, classrooms, corridors, etc.? I know that the sole point is to get an overview for the novel, and have chosen to go with the bottom-most for each example I mentioned. This however, makes my already-overflown list of settings overwhelm my poor little machine. The thing I'm trying to stitch together now is a 'setting profile', much alike the one mentioned in the character profile assignment description, or the one that was posted to the contest forums. As far as it goes, the points I thought of are: - Location - Location 2 - Location 3 (to pinpoint, for me these are 'country' 'state/county' 'exact location' - Senses (sounds, sights, ...) - Exterior or Interior? - Background - Characters associated Any ideas? |
