The character I deemed to be my protagonist would have Carl Orff's take on 'Oh Fortuna'. He's quite rebellious, and the way he stands up against the standards of his family resembles the story of Carmina Burana itself. Loud mouthed, free thinking and hedonist, but hidden away.

My antagonist would support unity over anything, along with the advanced (in the novel's time) thoughts of 'liberté égalité fraternité'. For this, I think his theme song would be Schiller's 'An die Freude', with music composed by Ludwig van Beethoven.

My last character is a 'Sturm und Drang' heroine, with radical views on society and rebellious spirit. At the same time, she knows well that she's doomed, and her ripples of depression and hope can only be portrayed by one masterpiece.

As for a playlist, I have none. I do listen to music while writing, but it always depends on the scene and my mood. For fast-paced scenes, battles for example, I usually choose metal, either Scandinavian or British. For those long-descriptions, I have something that helps me concentrate, which means blues or rock. As for the romantic scenes and especially the dark, grief-encrusted parts of the story I reach for classical pieces, one that fits the events. Listening to Mozart's requiem (the full one) has proven useful for killing off favourite characters.
