Seeing his parents die turned Bruce Wayne into Batman. I'd say that's a pretty big transformation, right? Not every character is going to turn into the World's Greatest Detective. Some will crawl inside of themselves. If this helps, my main character has subsumed his entire identity within his duty and a promise he made to his dead sister. He didn't suffer overt abuse, but was manipulated and essentially stripped of his Free Will by the very people he regards as his family and as his reason for being. He doesn't know this, of course, but he basically has no sense of himself outside of Demon Hunter (Knight Templar in my world). It's not the same, but it is similar. In order for Jude to be the character he's meant to be, he's going to have to reforge an identity for himself one step at a time. He's going to have to learn that it's OK to be Jude first and Demon Hunter second. In essence, he has to overcome the trauma that stripped him of his identity. Jude is one of my favorite characters I've ever created. And he seems to be a hit with a lot of the people to whom he has been introduced (readers, not other characters). Transformative characters are the best! -Quaddy Check this Out!
