I, too, have been doubting myself. I attempted Nano last year (my first time) and was unsuccessful. I wrote approximately 25K words. I was still happy because that is the longest piece I have ever written. I am trying, again, this year. I am currently suffering with severe depression so I find it very hard to focus on my novel. I am super distracted and need to work on catching up with the prep assignments. I am about a week behind. I wish you great success with NaNoWriMo and hope that your prep assignments aid you in writing your story. If you find yourself in need of a writing buddy let me know. I would love to brainstorm and share ideas with a fellow wrimo. Good luck!
