I usually start with, "I'm not sure what to say..." before going on to explain why my mind is so blank. Before long, I'm writing something relevant to my story. Other times, I start by stating a problem or paradox with my plot, characters, setting, etc. I don't try to solve it, I just write it down. You're right, the blank page is intimidating. So make it not-blank. Write about how hard this challenge is. Write your name. Transcribe what you can hear around you, or describe something you can see. Your story is almost certainly on your mind, and will probably intrude into your thoughts while you are writing. Well, that's what I find, anyway. Hope it helps you, too.
