At the same time it isn't a sexist thing. You can't expect a heterosexual queen to take as her consort a female just because she would have inherited the position had she been a male. That doesn't change the fact that Maurelle mother took it as a personal affront to the family. I will give her credit for not taking it out on her daughter that she wasn't a boy, but still. Disappointment in life happens. Had she had a younger brother the brother would be the consort but she was an only child.
