I'm guilty of sitting with my hard bottomed laptop on my lap from time to time, I just usually make sure the fans are not sitting on me so that it can cool the motherboard. Paul used to yell at me all the time that I was going to overheat and kill my laptop, so it's one of those things that has stuck with me.
