I can't find the answer, either, but I'd suggest you leave out the installed ladder. Not every house has them, especially older houses, so even if they did exist at the time of your story, there's no reason the house would *have* to have one.

Further, if you want to fill up word count, describing what she does to retrieve the ladder - possibly dealing with obstacles along the way for such an awkward item - can do that, and also help illuminate her personality (how she deals with such obstacles and delays).
