QUADDY! It's been too long! (Your project this year looks glorious, by the way.) I definitely need to buy the book version at some point! And there's nothing wrong with applying it to already-written novels! It's a great revision tool and a great planning tool. I got introduced to it earlier this year after somehow getting a full request from the mentors in a pitch contest (nothing ended up coming of it, but it was fun!). I consumed a lifetime's worth of podcasts and writing videos during the wait to distract myself. The Save the Cat beats helped me make a revision plan for the novel, mostly because I was too nice to my characters and didn't dig deep enough on the "all is lost/dark night of the soul" beats and let the characters resolve a major point of tension too early. So I went in and made them suffer for at least 5,000 more words and felt much better about it. |
