Ah, when in doubt, go for a walk. Watch a great old movie. You know the ones, where Humphrey Bogart or Robert Mitchum are the bad guys running away from the good guys, or they were the good guys catching the running bad guys. Film noir. Or I can think of Hannibal Lecter. Now that was a BAD guy.

Write a character with no real agenda. You'll be amazed what twists and turns they'll take. I had to rewrite an entire chapter once when the character basically rewrote an entire scene. My husband came out to check on me when I was yelling at the computer.
