Many times I have no idea about a story and then out of nowhere an idea starts burning and gradually gets brighter. Many of my stories have started as lists of ideas that often have nothing to do with each other. Sometimes I start in one direction and end up in the opposite or different direction that took a wrong turn but turned out to work well. Whatever your imagination creates keep this treasure. If you can not use it right now, then hold tightly to it until it finds a home in another project. I've found that sometimes when something doesn't fit but keeps nagging you for place in the story, it is usually because you haven't arrived at the right spot yet. Stories and characters have a way of getting their own way eventually, and they are most often right. Scrapping a story isn't a loss, it's something for another day in a different story.
