Yesterday I did not have any climax for my novel, and I suggested that I needed to consult my bad guys. Within an hour one whispered 'Spanish Armada'. "Ah! Yes, but," I countered. "Trust me" he whispered. Today I was working with my eldest son, and in the quiet periods between customers we knocked around ideas, lots of ideas. We came up with a group of priests/monks, perhaps the equivalent of the Jesuits. These we named the Mithraides. We explored their background, they aren't bound by the usual rules and prohibitions about magic, psychic abilities etc. They are a pet project of the Pater, head of the Mithraic church in Rome. They are run by the chief finance officer, but best of all, we created a real nasty, and named him Iliaster. I had recalled that witches were accused, of sending storms against King James of Scotland. So why wouldn't the Celtic people do the same against an armada? Because they were under an attack themselves. Suddenly I had an ending, I had ideas fizzing about - I've been riding the high all day, and couldn't wait to put finger to keyboard and get the ideas down. ((Source for the witches raising storms: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Berwick_witch_trials) Kind people keep giving me GP's - thank you very much for these, I have enough now to launch a merit badge on some poor unsuspecting soul...MuhuuHahahahaha! |
