In 5th grade, we're focusing on the theme of "kindness" this year. To kickstart the discussion, we just finished reading the book, Wonder by RJ Palacio. Now, in the book (for those who haven't read it) it discusses a 9th grade female reading War and Peace. To give the students some context as to what War and Peace really is, I borrowed it from the library. Naturally, they all had the face when they saw it. Then, out of curiosity, I've also begun reading it. While I haven't gotten too far yet, it's not as bad as people make it out to be. Maybe I'm wrong. But hey, this does speak to the 9th grader's maturity. And rounding out this little vignette, I suppose I'm trying to say is, other books (or allusions to them ) can also speak volumes to a character's character. ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** Think you can write for teens?
