I've been mulling over my Psych example and I don't think that's actually Chekov's gun. With Chekov's gun, the object itself is used later in the story, not just the knowledge of the object. Psych is probably more foreshadowing.

I was just trying to emphasize that it doesn't have to be an actual gun, it can be any object, and it doesn't have to save your character's life, it can just solve a problem. An example might be a key that someone sees, and then later there's a lock they need to open and they recall seeing that key and go find it again.

But the primary point that you walked away with is still true, it just solves a problem for the characters, it doesn't have to be the thing that creates the climax.
